Medan Trip - Day 5 - Part 2

Day 5 - continued

There is a Crocodile Farm or what is called "Penangkaran Buaya" in Indonesian language. I have never visited the Crocodile Park in Singapore, so I guess, this would be quite a nice trip to make.

The entrance ticket per person was Rp.3000 only. The farm is managed by a Chinese, but I think it is not so well maintained as the place is rather dirty and smelly.

I saw a Penangkaran Buaya show in TPI sometime ago. The farm was well maintained, and they took care of the crocodiles from the time when they were egg - small crocodile - young adult - adult - married - shopping bag cycle and restaurant dish :).

Side note: Talking about Crocodile, all of us would remember the late Crocodile Hunter - Steve Irving, who died while making a documentary on stingray.

below are some of the pictures on the crocodiles there. Enjoy!

Crocodiles swimming in the swamp beside the farm

Giant crocodile, 35 years old

Three brothers/sisters in a small pool

say "Aaaaaah"... hmm you have bad breath

For some of you who think that the pictures are fake... this is a short video clip of the crocodiles.

Other than the crocodiles, thera are other animals in the farm as well. A few monkeys, a python, a wild boar. This is a picture of the baby monkey trying to feel the soft touch of other feminine primate :)

After feeling the soft touch, the baby monkey tries to steal my camera... :p

It was a busy day...
after the two visits, we continued with our classes. At night, we managed to catch the show "Enchanted" in one of the cinema, at Sun Plaza. It was nice and cheap, only Rp15000 per person, or 60k for 4 of us, the price of 1 ticket in Singapore :)

End of day 5...

Medan Trip - Day 5 - Part 1

There was an old kingdom here in Medan, called the Melayu Deli Kingdom. But because of their pro-Dutch attitude, they were being 'neglected' by the Indonesian government for a rather long time. Only recently, more than half a century after independence, the government started to pump in some money to restore the old palace and other memorial sites.

In historical books, it is often said that Indonesian was under oppression by Dutch for 350 years. That is true only for the people living in Java, but not true for the Sumatran people, who said that the Dutch only took control for 25-50 years in the land of Sumatra. Moreover, it is quite unclear to say whether Dutch colonialism was indeed bad for Indonesia such that it qualifies for the term 'oppressor'. In reality, many people can testify that under Dutch government, the people was enjoying their life better, than the time when they were really oppressed by the kingdom or landlords.

Enough of the history part, below are some of the pictures taken from the palace and grand mosque.

The signboard stated that this is the Masjid Raya Al-Mashun

The renovated mosque, with a water fountain

The three 'wise' men (and woman) who came from afar...

An artist illustration of the grand mosque. The lake was the imagination of the artist.

The Palace

This is not the end of day 5. The second part will be posted tomorrow on the visit to the Crocodile 'sanctuary' nearby.

About Yuwie...

I have been thinking that while a lot of us are using networking tools like friendster, hi-five, facebook, or any other, who is the one that really profited? We join in, pay nothing, our network grow, we write blogs in friendster or here in blogspot, we gain popularity and more and more people view our blogs, but we have no real monetary again.

Except, of course those who have put in some effort to add in some google adsense, or other advertising banner in their blogs. That way, they can earn some extra income.

Well, my intention in writing blogs is not for money. But I have been thinking, is there anything wrong, when I am writing blogs, posting my pictures, get connected with friends, and at the same time there is some side income?

Recently, I got to know this thing call Yuwie. It is a relatively new networking website, and thus, the facility is not as well developed as those mentioned above. There is something different though, Yuwie pays you, though very little, to build your networks, post your blogs, etc.

How it works? The more people who view your profile, blogs, photo album, clubs, etc, your view count will increase. They pay you based on your view counts, (though very little at first), and that is not all. By inviting people to join in under your name, you gain a percentage of the viewing count that generated by your referral. The payable referral tree is up to 10 level depth.

If you are interested, you may click on this link: and see a video presentation of how they really works. If you join under this link, you will join under me, of course, and I will be very grateful.

Another good point to introduce this website, is that currently, the worldwide member count is only about 400k. If you join now, the potential to grow is there, cause you are one of the first one to join.

I will continue to post in blogspot for the next few weeks, and later on, I will only post in yuwie. Hope that you will still come and read my blog from yuwie.
